The leadership of the parliamentary group of the “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms“-DPS is meeting today with representatives of the regional structures to discuss what path they will follow from now on, after the resignation of Dzhevdet Chakarov from the post of chairman. This is reported by BTA.
MEP Ilhan Küçük appealed yesterday not to rush into the idea of creating a new party and electing a new chairman. He commented on Dzhevdet Chakarov's resignation as his personal act and expressed hope that he would have the courage to explain "what made him sit on Delyan Peevski's lap".
Earlier this week, Dzhevdet Chakarov announced that he was resigning as chairman of the MRF and leaving the parliamentary group of "Democracy, Rights and Freedoms" -DPS.
The announcement of the decision was announced by the press center of "DPS - New Beginning" after a meeting between Dzhevdet Chakarov and Delyan Peevski, leader of +DPS-New Beginning". Unity in the name of the people and the integrity of the party is the only way that will guarantee the fulfillment of all commitments and expectations that voters have assigned. For this to happen, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dzhevdet Chakarov resigns as chairman of the MRF party, the announcement states.
Peevski and Chakarov were elected as chairmen of the MRF according to a formula specified by honorary chairman Ahmed Dogan during a national conference in February last year. Legal disputes over the MRF brand followed, the outcome of which occurred after the decision of the Supreme Court of Cassation after Chakarov's appeal was withdrawn. The case reached the final instance, after an appeal against decisions of the Sofia City Court (SCC) on an application for entry of changes in the Register of Political Parties under the party of "Movement for Rights and Freedoms". In the reasons for the ruling, the Supreme Court of Cassation states that with his request Chakarov as chairman of the political party "Movement for Rights and Freedoms" has stated that he is completely withdrawing the cassation appeal filed and is asking for the proceedings in the case to be terminated.
Dzhevdet Chakarov also left the parliamentary group of “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms&rdash; MRF. In a statement to BTA, he stated that after today's conversation with the chairman of the parliamentary group of “Movement for Rights and Freedoms - New Beginning” Delyan Peevski has decided to resign as co-chairman of MRF in order to put an end to the division between people. My only goal is to overcome the enmity and for people to unite. With the same goal, I decided to resign as chairman of the parliamentary group of MRF-MPS, as well as from the parliamentary group, Chakarov stated. Before making my final decision, I informed the top leadership of MRF, he said, and expressed gratitude to the team he worked with.
