The Bulgarian National Bank made a final decision in April on the appearance of the Bulgarian euro coins after our country's accession to the eurozone. On June 4, the European Commission (EC) and the European Central Bank (ECB) gave the green light to Bulgaria's path to eurozone membership. According to the published ECB Convergence Report, since 2024 Bulgaria has made significant progress in terms of economic convergence with the eurozone and is ready to adopt the euro from January 1, 2026.

The euro coins have a common side and a national side. The design of the current Bulgarian circulation coins has been reproduced for the main elements of the national side of the Bulgarian euro coins.

The design of the common sides of the coins is the work of Luc Luix from the Royal Mint of Belgium. They feature images of the European Union or Europe, symbolizing the unity of the EU.
