A little over 5.6 tons of waste from basements, garages and attics were handed over for separate collection by the residents of Sofia Municipality, BTA reports, citing a statement from the municipal administration. The generated garbage was collected only from the areas of “Vrabnitsa” and "Lyulin" this Saturday.
They indicated that the collected amount of textiles was 400 kg, of packaging - 700 kg, of electronics - 600 kg, of bulky waste - 1800 kg, of end-of-life tires - 1400 kg and of hazardous waste over 700 kg.
The Sofia Municipality indicated that this amount of waste was collected within four hours. They will be utilized according to the rules for sustainable waste management, instead of taking up space in people's homes or being dumped in inappropriate places, the municipal administration specified.
With this, the total amount of waste collected with the Sofia Municipality's pop-up site so far is nearly 30 tons, after the editions in "Novi Iskar", "Mladost", "Slatina" and “Iskar”, the Municipality indicated.
The next collection of such waste will take place on June 14 - at the parking lot opposite the Central Station in the “Serdika“ area and on June 21 it will be in “Poduyane“ - at the intersection between “Vladimir Vazov” Blvd. and ul. “Milen Tsvetkov”.
The Sofia Municipality indicated that the aim of the initiative is to make it easier for citizens to separate various types of waste that have a special collection regime, to improve collection rates and to raise awareness about the importance of waste separation.
