„The recognition by the European Commission and the European Central Bank that Bulgaria is ready to become a member of the eurozone is not a pumpkin medal. This is a recognition that the Bulgarian economy and model are stable enough for us to be part of it”. This was stated in Plovdiv by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.
The Prime Minister emphasized that against the backdrop of success, it is easiest to point out failure and point out non-existent demons. One such non-existent demon is the eurozone.
„The idea of the single currency is to overcome trade barriers. The single market means the movement of capital, goods and services, the reduction of all kinds of regimes that hinder trade and exchange. And business in Europe is largely interconnected. All this is done in Europe so that nearly half a billion European citizens can have a higher than high standard of living. This is done so that Bulgaria can have growth and the economy can work better“, explained Prime Minister Zhelyazkov about the benefits of the euro.
He stressed that their political opponents – – “Vazrazhdane“ and Mech - deeply believe in the euro. “Head of State Rumen Radev also deeply believes in the euro, which he proclaimed in the first three months of this year,” said the Prime Minister and added: “then he changed direction and not because he did not believe, but because he had to position himself as an opponent of this government“.
Prime Minister Zhelyazkov recalled that when he took office at the beginning of this year, the first thing he called for was inter-institutional cooperation. He defined the actions of the President and his attack on the eurozone with “word, speech, gesture and acts“ as an attack on the political vision and goal of this cabinet.
“Then we cannot help but defend this vision. Since Radev has been head of state, is there a government with which he has not been in conflict, with the exception of the caretaker cabinet of Galab Donev? With all other governments, he has acted as a supreme mentor and behaved as if he were a control body“, recalled Zhelyazkov and emphasized that this behavior of his is not unacceptable in relation to regular governments.
“Between Dondukov 1 and 2 there must be rules and they must be within the framework of constitutional powers“, is categorical Rosen Zhelyazkov.
Assessing the work of his government, Zhelyazkov said: “6 months is a very short period for any government, but it is enough for us to forget where we were in December last year. We were on the verge of the next consecutive early elections. Some forget how important the political wisdom of our political leader Boyko Borisov was, this must be remembered. In the campaign for the 51st National Assembly, we had a clear thesis that the prime minister should be the leader of the party, because he is an indisputable authority. Then Borisov said that in order to have a government, he would give in. This was a far-sighted compromise that enabled our government to work and set and fulfill ambitious goals“.
