A 43-year-old man from Debelets drowned this afternoon in a river pool near the village of Kapinovo.
The tragic incident occurred around 4:00 p.m., while the man was on a picnic with his family in the area of the Kapinovo waterfall - a popular place for walking and swimming in the summer.
According to eyewitnesses, he climbed the rock next to the waterfall and tried to jump into the water, but slipped and fell unintentionally. When he fell, he hit his head on a stone and, stunned by the impact, was unable to swim out, BTV reported.
The drama unfolded in front of his 11-year-old child.
The Regional Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Veliko Tarnovo announced that police teams and divers were immediately sent to the scene.
Shortly before 7:00 p.m., the man's body was removed and sent for an autopsy to the hospital in Veliko Tarnovo.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Veliko Tarnovo.
