It is necessary for the authorities in our neighbor to stop wasting time and seeking excuses for their own delay. This is what Yordanka Fandakova (GERB-SDF), Chairwoman of the Foreign Policy Committee in the 51st National Assembly, wrote on her Facebook page on the occasion of the vote earlier today on the draft report of the European Parliament on the progress of the Republic of North Macedonia towards its membership in the EU. The draft report was approved by the MEPs in the EP Foreign Affairs Committee.
Fandakova points out that it, as well as in many other European documents, once again urges the Republic of North Macedonia to fulfill its commitments and amend its constitution in order to actually begin the negotiation process for its membership, and recalls that there is a clear consensus in the EU on this issue.
"I would like to thank all Bulgarian MEPs for their united position, which aims to bring the report into line with the subject it addresses. At the same time, I welcome the fact that AFET did not allow itself to become a body affirming the nationalist subversive claims for "centuries-old Macedonian identity" coming from the authorities in the RSM," Fandakova points out.
The Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee recalls that Bulgaria consistently supports the European integration of the countries of the Western Balkans. Their transformation on their path to membership in states based on the rule of law, good-neighborly relations, respect for human rights and the highest achievements of European law is of exceptional importance for them themselves, and of geopolitical importance for the Union. Therefore, their integration will take place on condition of compliance with the principles and agreements with the EU that they have agreed to, Fandakova stated.
We continue to work for a constructive dialogue, protecting national interests and European values, while upholding transparency and objectivity in European processes, she also stated.
