Prof. Stoykov on the style of the greatest dictators: Tasteless and all-powerful - 1

Since childhood, he has been interested in the personal lives of the people who, figuratively speaking, “command the parade“. This today leads him to writing a book about the three greatest tyrants – entitled “The Style of Dictators: Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin“.

Prof. Lyubomir Stoykov spoke about it and about him in the program “Face to Face“ on bTV.

„With this book I wanted to see how visual culture and style intersect with character, with political leadership, with this fanaticism, with this megalomania, tyranny, and the book is part of my attempts to delve deeper and from new perspectives into the so-called. political lifestyle“, he said.

And he quotes the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, who says that “the style of people in power supports that same power“.

“This is also one explanation why I analyze the dress code, the image, the style of political communication and, of course, public behavior“, the professor explained.

And he said that the thing that unites Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin is bad taste and kitsch.

“The bad taste in urban, civilian clothing – something that does not apply to their uniforms. "A genuine lack of taste, which was most pronounced in Hitler, as he was terribly careless, did not care about his appearance and constantly received reproaches and remarks from his closest people," added Prof. Stoykov.

And he described Stalin's style as the most rustic and the most stripped down and simple.
