Bulgaria will receive 22 billion euros from the European Union budget for the period 2028-2034. This was revealed by Iliana Tsanova, Director General "Risk Management" at the European Commission, in an interview with bTV.
Tsanova explained that this money will be allocated against the implementation of certain reforms. "These reforms will be closely tied first to the recommendations of the European Semester, in which the European Council gives serious specific recommendations in the various areas of our economy what needs to happen," she said.
An important condition for receiving European money is compliance with the rule of law. "What is important to know is that these funds will remain very categorically subject to compliance with the rule of law," Tsanova emphasized.
The reforms that Bulgaria must implement will be determined by the Bulgarian government and will be coordinated with the European Commission and the European Union.
The Recovery and Resilience Plan, created due to COVID-19, will no longer exist. "The end of 2026 is the last date for the disbursement of the tranches, provided that all objectives are achieved," Tsanova explained.
The amount for the next period is slightly larger than the funds that Bulgaria currently has under the operational programs. The total European budget for 2028-2034 amounts to almost 2 trillion euros.
Bulgaria ranks in the top 10 beneficiary countries of the new European budget, with the main package of 19.5 billion euros to be directed mainly to agriculture and regional cohesion.
