At a briefing of the Ministry of Interior's disaster headquarters, formed in connection with the complicated fire situation in the country, Deputy Minister of the Interior Toni Todorov indicated that in the early afternoon, the aircraft equipment that was requested under the EU civil protection mechanism will begin to arrive. At the same time, Turkish firefighters have joined in helping to extinguish the fire in the Lesovo region, reports the Bulgarian National Radio.
"We have become familiar with the current situation, the situation is very dynamic. We are constantly monitoring the weather forecasts, and unfortunately they are not optimistic. Today, high temperatures are expected again and in places the wind will reach high speeds, which is unfavorable," Todorov pointed out and added: "I want to thank all partners from European countries who immediately responded to our requests and in this regard, after 1:30 p.m., we expect equipment to begin arriving at Plovdiv Airport - one helicopter each from France, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as two planes from Sweden." According to Toni Todorovo, "a headquarters and coordination center have also been established at Plovdiv Airport by colleagues who will direct, depending on the situation, the equipment that will be on site." He pointed out that last night, assistance was also sought, according to a trilateral cooperation between Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece, as "at 8:00 a.m. on our territory Turkish colleagues who have been working since the moment they entered our territory during the fire in the Lesovo region also stepped in. They have 3 water cannons, 2 fire engines and are working very intensively at the moment".
