Adv. Mihail Ekimdzhiev described the wishes, ideas, proposals, and exchange of remarks for the closure of the anti-corruption CPC as "theater for the naive".
In an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio, for the program "Before Everyone" he commented that he categorically does not see any real prospects for closing the KPK, "because this play is "theater for the naive":
"This bluff by Peevski, coordinated with Boyko Borisov, is a passing of the ball. What Peevski did, he said "I want the KPK to be closed", almost as a human rights defender of democracy. He did it because he had a prior agreement and knew that Borisov would not accept, would not agree and would tell him, "I want it too, but there we must receive some 5 billion leva under the PVU".
According to the lawyer and human rights defender, the counter remains in the PP-DB:
"This is the strategic goal of this backroom move. Now, if the PP-DB say "we want it to be closed", they will be reproached because the Commission was created according to their design years ago. Their opponents will attack them for wanting it because this CPC is doing its job and is targeting their representatives. If they say we don't want it to be closed! They have no useful move, and Peevski and Borisov are accumulating dividends by passing the ball to each other."
Adv. Ekimdzhiev also commented on the proposal of Gen. Atanasov from the State Security Service for the closure of the Commission, that this is the second goal - to create tension between the PP-SB and hopefully it is peripheral.
He says that they warned the PP, who set out with youthful, Ajami-like enthusiasm and armed the CPC with tools, and now this is falling on them.
"There were legal arguments to create a parallel structure of the non-working prosecutor's office and the CPC to be corrective and why not to prosecute corrupt prosecutors and judges. But in our justice system, only the prosecutor's office can bring charges and this idea could not be implemented as intended from the beginning. Whatever the CPC does, they will once again find themselves in the gang of Sarafov's dwarves - the prosecutor's office. And it depends on it what will happen with the CPC investigation. The prosecutor's office only does harm," commented the attorney. Ekimdzhiev.
He is categorical that the measure "detention in custody" is imposed when there is a risk that the detainee will abscond or commit a crime.
"The prosecutor's office has not presented any evidence, as Gutsanov did years ago, for the mayor of Varna Kotsev, that there is a risk that he will abscond, let alone commit another crime, after this has been under investigation for 6 months," the human rights activist stated.
And he recalled that the money that the KPKONPI, now divided into two - KPK and KONPI, was swallowing is enormous and no one has yet calculated the enormous damage to the state.
"I wonder why no one has made an attempt to calculate the total damage to the state. This is incalculable, because on the one hand there is the budget that we pay, on the other hand there is the confiscated property, which is much less than this budget, on the third there are the compensations paid by the state, on the fourth there are many claims for millions against the state. This is a tornado, total damage to an authority created to bleed the mafia, and it destroyed the foundations of the state, not to mention the moral damage to business," warned attorney Ekimdzhiev.
