Lightning caused a fire in the village of Dabovo in Stara Zagora. Stubble and straw bales on an area of about 4.5 decares were set on fire, but a team from the Kazanlak fire department managed to quickly extinguish the fire before it spread.
"There was quite strong thunderstorm activity in this area. When we arrived at the scene of the fire, it was raining and there were several bales on fire, about 4.5 decares of stubble. According to eyewitnesses, the flames started from lightning that struck one of the bales," said Chief Inspector Stanimir Tonchev, head of the Kazanlak fire department, quoted by NOVA.
According to the firefighter, such incidents happen, but rarely. Unlike mass fires, which are caused by human activity - whether intentional or careless, lightning fires are a less common phenomenon.
Firefighters responded immediately after receiving the signal and managed to localize the fire before it spread and threatened surrounding properties. There are no reports of injuries or damage to property beyond the burned straw bales.
The incident in the village of Dabovo is part of a series of fires that have swept through various parts of Bulgaria in recent days due to high temperatures and thunderstorm activity.
