Another protest over the water crisis was held in Breznik. Since November last year, the city has been on a regime due to the drastic drop in the level of the "Krasava" dam, and since last month - due to the presence of manganese in the water, its use for drinking and cooking has been restricted.
People are dissatisfied both because of the empty dam and because of the quality of the water, reports the Bulgarian National Radio.
"Absolutely dire situation. There are hundreds, thousands of places in Bulgaria that probably already have a problem, but only the municipality of Breznik drinks toxic water. We are in a partial state of emergency, because if we declare a real state of emergency, there are probably authorities, say the prosecutor's office or others, who will be interested in why this municipality is in a state of emergency. And we - partially, everything is ready for us. A little over 750 grams of the supplied water in the Breznik municipality is per person per day. This is for drinking, cooking and some other things", said Dr. Valeri Velichkov.
The organizer of the protest Stella Panova added:
"The only goal of the protests is clean drinking water. And what should be done? There are some smart heads who should decide it and do it".
Among the protesting people were also residents of the surrounding villages, who are also suffering because of the lack of water:
"Our water supply system has some Eternit pipes that constantly break down. "There are known accidents that are being repaired, there are also unknown ones where water is leaking," said Bistra Borisova from the village of Slakovtsi.
Citizens are demanding real action and are threatening that if this does not happen, there will be roadblocks.
