Instead of free renovation - 126 families lived in a horror block in Svishtov. Their balconies are completely open, with railings cut out, which led to a fatality a few days ago. An 80-year-old former football player fell from his unsecured balcony and died on the spot, reports BNT.

The renovation of one of the oldest blocks in Svishtov begins in May. The builders cut the railings on the balconies, removed the air conditioners, erected scaffolding in front of the entrances and stopped working because they ran out of money, say the people from the block. They dare not open the doors to their balconies, lest they follow their neighbor's fate.

"If the terrace hadn't been cut, this man might have been saved", commented Maria Nikolaeva.

80-year-old Stanimir Blazhev also almost fell from the balcony while drying clothes.

"I was about to fall down and grabbed the locker. They broke them, sold the iron for scrap, took the money, we're standing here in the open".

After the incident, workers put up boards on the terraces. They secured them with wire.

"A person had to fall to their death for them to pile up this garbage", the people in the block are dissatisfied.
However, Marinela's terrace is not yet secured. She has installed cameras in every room to keep an eye on her four children.

"I'm very scared. One carelessness on my part and he, as tiny as he is, who knows what could happen. If I knew they were going to leave us without a terrace, I wouldn't have let them push it".

Every time it rains, people put basins and buckets under it to save their homes from flooding.

"They broke everything, water flows everywhere at home, and miracles, misery. The water gets inside between the insulation and the wall, there is nowhere for it to escape," says Snezhinka Aleksieva.
After the tragic incident in the block, the Svishtov Municipality issued an order to stop all activities until the site is secured.

"The supervision has also issued instructions to the contractor company, we do not evade responsibility. What is required of us in terms of submission of documents has been provided to the investigating authorities. According to the Law on Spatial Planning, this is a construction site and we must all comply," explained Gencho Genchev – the mayor of the Svishtov Municipality.
