Dr. Mimi Vitkova: We cannot have healthcare in four cities in the country and everything else is a second-hand experience - 1

We need to reach a catastrophe to remember that for years we have turned a blind eye and no one has thought about what is happening. Regarding this case, I wonder what is happening in our resorts. Has the Ministry of Tourism, which is responsible for concessionaires, for what these people do in the resorts, not seen the parachutes, boats, water slides for years and not asked itself who these people are who work there. What kind of state guarantees are there to guarantee the lives of people there and on these attractions, so that only after the child's death did the Council of Ministers have to take action and give a few days to introduce emergency measures. This was said by former Health Minister Dr. Mimi Vitkova in the studio of "Denyat ON AIR". According to her, this is madness.

"Don't we know what the state of emergency is? In this particular case, the situation probably starts with the signal that was sent from there. But when a child is reported to have fallen from such a height, what kind of team sends emergency aid? As far as I understand from the media, the ambulance had equipment for providing emergency aid. And at the same time, it turns out that the medical personnel sent could not and were not able to provide primary emergency care," Vitkova added on the air of Bulgaria ON AIR.
Emergency Care in Our Country
"For years, we decided that we would not produce paramedics, we renamed them paramedics. The question is what kind of training did we give these people. From his basic education, he must have additional qualifications to provide these emergency services. These are very worrying questions. Even if we bring in space technology, if we do not have prepared people - nothing will happen. Something similar is in the entire system, we do not have nurses, we cannot schedule in hospitals and we have to have specialists on duty. "After the rain, a hood is superfluous," commented the former Minister of Health.

In her words, it is not normal for this timelessness to continue.

"This is political, administrative and all-round timelessness. The lack of funds cannot be the universal justification for all problems. We must understand that as a society and a state we produce this. We cannot compare ourselves in terms of GDP with either Germany, France, England or any other developed country. How can it not be commented that we are the only country, with the exception of Cyprus, in the EU, in which healthcare costs from the patient's pocket are between 45 and 48%, after the WHO criterion since the 1990s was for this percentage to be below 15%," recalled the former Minister of Health.
Dr. Vitkova emphasized that the work in the emergency room is hard and difficult.

"This is a confrontation with situations that require reactions within seconds and minutes. This is not such an attractive job and because of this the remuneration must be sufficient. The deficit is great everywhere. Who takes care of the people in the villages? We cannot have healthcare in four cities in the country and everything else is left to chance. We see that our politicians are more concerned with themselves than with what they were sent to do. Our politicians have not learned to sit at a table, see the problem, assess it and offer reasonable solutions," she added.
