The reactions after the tragedy in Nessebar showed us the way forward. The institutions responded with lightning speed, the regulations are being reviewed and new, stricter rules are being prepared. Why now – this is a valid question. In Greece, under the same circumstances, a brother and sister die and the government adopts very strict laws. This was stated on bTV by Polina Karastoyanova, executive director of the National Tourism Board, after the tragedy with an 8-year-old child at sea, quoted by novini.bg.
“However, there must be an element of personal responsibility – you cannot practice an activity in which people's health and lives are at risk, and be negligent, not to check these ropes. The entire society needs to be awakened, because innocent people are dying before our eyes under ridiculous circumstances”, she believes.
When asked why the ropes on the attraction were not checked, she added: “There is no strict and clearly described procedure for operation and control. I hope this will become a reality in the coming weeks.”
Karastoyanova commented on the impact of the tragedies of recent days on the tourist season: “The season is very active, with a high degree of favorable factors at work. All entrepreneurs, investors are in full mobilization.”
