Military personnel from the Land Forces are still helping to fight the large fire in Rila today.
This is the third consecutive day that they have been involved in extinguishing the fire above the village of Gorno Osenovo, on the territory of the “Rila“ National Park.
20 military personnel from the 3rd Mechanized Battalion in Blagoevgrad, part of the Third Brigade Command, are on site.
They are operating side by side with firefighters and forest officials, and the group is led by Senior Lieutenant Ivan Dukov.
Despite the heavy rain during the night, the fire has not yet been extinguished. Today, the firefighting is focused on areas with burning dry trees, bushes and branches. In the subalpine belt, towards the peaks of Kapatnik and Skachkovets, the dry grass has been extinguished. The teams are divided into two main groups, on the periphery, to prevent the fire from spreading.
The fire in the national park broke out a few days ago, on August 28, above the village of Gorno Osenovo. Over the next few days, it progressively grew, with the military joining the firefighting effort by helicopter.
