"Stolich Elektrotransport" on the tram incident: The Whatman has been temporarily removed. Our hypothesis is for external interference - 1

"Stolich Elektrotransport" EAD sent the media an official statement about the serious tram incident in Sofia yesterday.

Here is the company's full position, quoted by novini.bg:

„On 02.09.2025, an unprecedented incident occurred in the area of the Romanian Embassy with two T6A5 type tram cars. Fortunately, no passengers or citizens were injured.

We would like to inform you that immediately after the report was filed, we sent teams from the company to inspect and secure the area.

The preliminary review of the video recordings from the cameras in the vehicles showed the following:

- The driver left the cabin without fully securing the railcar according to the rules;

- There is information about unknown persons near the cabin of the railcar. Seconds later, the vehicle moves off without the driver being in it.

Based on what has been established so far, our hypothesis is of external interference, which led to the self-departure of the railcar.

We took the following actions:

1. The incident was immediately reported to the law enforcement agencies. The Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor's Office are conducting an investigation to identify those responsible and the public will be informed when all the details are established.

2. The driver has been temporarily suspended from work until the completion of the internal investigation.

3. A special commission has been appointed to analyze all the facts and will prepare a report.

4. We are introducing immediate measures to increase security, including additional instructions for the Whatmans and technical inspections of the locking mechanisms. Our priority is always the safety of citizens.

The company takes full responsibility for conducting an objective investigation, transparency to the public and introducing effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.“
