Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo Customs Post detained undeclared 159,480 euros with a leva equivalent of 311,915.77 leva during two separate inspections of trucks leaving the country.
In one of the cases, on the evening of September 22, 2025, a truck with a foreign registration arrived at the post. The driver - a Turkish citizen - declared that he was transporting groupage goods from Germany through Bulgaria and Turkey to Jordan. After conducting a risk analysis, customs officers selected the vehicle for a thorough customs inspection, including an X-ray. During the subsequent physical inspection, customs officers discovered euro banknotes hidden in the driver's cabin behind the upholstery on the rear wall. 109,480 euros with a leva equivalent of 214,124.27 leva were found.
In the other case on 17.09.2025, undeclared 50,000 euros with a leva equivalent of 97,791.50 leva were found. The currency was hidden in the mattress of the bed in the driver's cabin of a truck with Turkish registration, transporting goods from France through Bulgaria and Turkey to Georgia.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the cases by investigating customs inspectors under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
