Another hearing was held in the Sofia City Court on the case against the former head of the capital's investigation Petyo Petrov-Euroto. It is being conducted in absentia, as Petrov has been missing for more than 2 years.
The former investigator is charged with large-scale document fraud, which is a particularly serious case and is punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison. This concerns the huge sums of money, gold and expensive coins seized from Iliya and Yavor Zlatanov.
He is also accused of having obtained property worth over 1.3 million leva from the specialized prosecutor's office 5 years ago, using forged documents, owned by Iliya Zlatanov. This property was previously seized in pre-trial proceedings by the prosecutor's office.
„The court reported that he was not wanted. I cannot tell you where”, said supervising prosecutor Ivaylo Petrov.
Petyo Petrov's ex-wife, Lyubena Petrova, was also supposed to appear in court today, but she announced that she was sick and would not be present. She was also charged in the case, but these charges were later dropped and now she is only a witness.
In June, Iliya Zlatanov dictated to the court Petrov's address in Thessaloniki, where he reportedly lives. However, since then there has been no information from the Ministry of Interior about his search.
