The school vacation around the Day of the Awakeners led to increased traffic on the roads, and the "Traffic Police" reported thousands of violations on the first day of inspections alone, writes Nova TV.

The four-day vacation for students around the Day of the Awakeners led to increased traffic on the roads in the country and launched the traditional campaign of the "Traffic Police" - "Winter". Thousands of violations were identified on the first day of inspections alone, with over 3,700 tickets and acts drawn up. According to the data presented by Commissioner Maria Boteva, Deputy Director of the "Traffic Police", the results are indicative.

"For November 1 alone, we have more than 18,000 inspections, with more than 9,000 vehicles, more than 6,000 drivers, 970 passengers and over 1,134 pedestrians being inspected," Commissioner Boteva announced. As a result of these inspections, over 3,700 tickets and acts for established administrative violations have been drawn up.

The first ten days of the "Winter" campaign are mainly aimed at the most vulnerable road users. "The emphasis is on cyclists, drivers of individual electric vehicles, animal-drawn vehicles," Commissioner Boteva specified. She added that the technical condition of the cars is also monitored, including the condition of the tires. Although the legal obligation to drive with winter tires comes into force on November 15, the police are already checking the tread depth and the integrity of the tires.

The most common violations committed by drivers are related to incorrect maneuvers and loss of priority, in addition to speeding. Commissioner Boteva drew attention to the fact that pedestrians also often create the prerequisites for traffic accidents.

In connection with the holidays, increased traffic is expected until the end of the day, especially on highways and entrance-exit arteries of large settlements. Statistics show that the riskiest days for travel with an increased number of accidents are Friday, Thursday and Monday, which is why the "Traffic Police" are calling for increased attention from all road users.
