Small patients poisoned after consuming cannabis biscuits are expected to be discharged today from the hospital in Pleven. According to social services, their families are not at risk, bTV reported.

The district prosecutor's office in Pleven has initiated pre-trial proceedings for the incident with the children. If the perpetrator is found and proven guilty, he could receive up to five years in prison for a crime against health, the prosecution explained.

On Monday, six children were admitted to the University Hospital in Pleven after consuming cannabis biscuits. Sweets were offered to them by strangers. Who is the woman who gave the dangerous biscuits to the poisoned children, the investigators clarify.

„The responsibility of the parents should be checked, in this case whether these consequences are not due to insufficient care”, says Eleonora Yaneva, spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor's Office – Pleven.

In the Toxicology department of the Pleven hospital, for the first time, they encountered a case where such young children took drugs in the form of sweets.

Cannabis is prohibited for use in our country, but the online market offers it freely in the form of biscuits, cupcakes, chocolates and other foods. Supply is gaining momentum. Some sites require you to mark yourself as an adult before they let you view their products, but this is only pro forma.

„What the biscuits contain is tetrahydrocannabinol, which gives the strongest toxic effect of cannabis. This substance is prohibited, it leads to serious damage, especially to addiction, apparently this is aimed at feeding the children", explains Assoc. Prof. Evgenia Burzashka, head of the Toxicology Clinic at the Pleven hospital.

Some parents ignore the problem until the moment their child suffers.

“It is very difficult for us to work with parents for whom it is quite natural to use, in their opinion, mild substances,” says Katya Bozhikova, chairperson of the Municipal Council on Narcotic Substances.

„Even in one of the advertisements for the cookies it was written that they are ideal, suitable for recreation in the mountains”, points out Maria Gizdovska.

The use of drugs in their pure form is also becoming more frequent. These days, a 15-year-old girl who swallowed a serious amount of antidepressants in combination with cannabis and cocaine was admitted to the toxicology department of the Pleven hospital.
