After questioning all witnesses and experts in the case of the death of 15-year-old Filip Arsov, who was run over on a pedestrian crossing on the capital's "Gurko" street, the prosecution will decide whether and how to requalify the charge against defendant Petar Todorov. This became clear after today's hearing in the case, at which two witnesses were questioned.
Defendant Petar Todorov is charged with causing death with possible intent.
Most witness accounts so far indicate that instead of slowing down, Todorov increased his speed and hit the boy. This, according to supervising prosecutor Kalin Bliznakov, necessitates a change in the charge in a particularly serious case. However, he accepted the court's argument that all witnesses and experts in the case must first be questioned, since changing the indictment would in practice bring the case back to the beginning and change the panel of judges.
Nikolina Petkova - Filip's mother, insists on a harsher sentence and believes that there is enough evidence for the Prosecutor's Office to request it.
"It is very clear so far. The act committed by the defendant should be treated as a particularly serious case, since it is already clear that the actions he took after the murder of the child actually indicate that he intends to leave the scene, which accordingly leads us to a particularly serious case and yes, it is appropriate to change the qualification of the indictment," she commented.
Of the seven witnesses summoned, only two appeared in the courtroom today. They said they did not hear a car speeding, but the car was moving fast, and after the incident the driver did not stop.
"The woman who has not appeared once again and they cannot find her is the woman who was in the car and they live as a family with her to this day," said Petya Ivanova from the "Angels on the Road" Association, who protested in front of the Courthouse before the hearing, demanding a fair trial.
