The court has ordered a detention order for the director of "Customs" - Plovdiv, Miroslav Belyashki, who is accused of patronizing a cigarette smuggling channel, BGNES reported. His order is being heard at the Courthouse this afternoon.
Belyashki was detained yesterday during an operation by the Anti-Corruption Commission under the supervision of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office. The order can be appealed within three days. The court issued it because it believes that the accused may commit another crime.
Pre-trial proceedings for official crimes on a particularly large scale have already been initiated. It was established that an attempt was made to unlawfully prevent a customs inspection of a vehicle at the "Kapitan Andreevo" border checkpoint.
It is believed that a few days ago, Belyashki visited the checkpoint, which is not under the jurisdiction of the Plovdiv customs, and tried to ensure the transit of a TIR truck loaded with cigarettes from a non-EU country and traveling to Romania.
In court, the accused Belyashki said that he had not only carried out routine customs procedures. He asked the court for a lighter measure.
