A young man was shot in the head with a rubber bullet after a chase with police officers in Gabrovo. The incident occurred this morning on a central street in the city. The man's life is in danger, and the prosecutor's office has launched an investigation.
Around 8:30 this morning, after a chase, 24-year-old Alexander stopped his car and fled.
The police caught up with him, but when they tried to detain Alexander, he was shot by one of the police officers. Earlier today, the Gabrovo police announced that during the physical confrontation, the police officer's service weapon unintentionally fired a shot with a stop cartridge, hitting the man.
However, relatives believe that the shot was not accidental, because there was a struggle at the scene of the incident.
The prosecutor's office has opened pre-trial proceedings in the case, and the police refused to comment, as well as to report whether an internal investigation has been ordered.
Alexander Todorov from Gabrovo was going to the store in his mother's car. In the area of \u200b\u200b"Treti Mart" Street, a police patrol signaled the driver to stop. Instead of stopping, the young man accelerated. Then he stopped and ran away.

"I don't know why, I don't know for what reason it was done. We went to the place where the altercation took place and saw how there was a fight. As far as I understand, he was attacked by 5-6 people – police officers“, commented to bTV Daniel Todorov – Alexander's brother.
The young man was admitted to the hospital with a severe head injury and life-threatening injuries.
“There is a penetrating head injury, probably from a gunshot wound. There is a life-threatening injury“, commented Dr. Minkov Mihov, director of the MHAT – Gabrovo.
"They are performing an operation and it is not known whether he will survive. This is not the decision to go and make a fuss“, commented Alexander's mother.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated in the Gabrovo district prosecutor's office for causing moderate bodily harm by a police team. The police refused to comment on the case at this stage.
