Mary J. Blige,Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang and Ozzy Osbourne will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The group of new members also includes folk rockers Dave Matthews Band and singer and guitarist Peter Frampton, the Associated Press reported.

Alexis Corner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton won the musical influence award, while the late Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Diane Warwick and Norman Whitfield will receive the musical achievement award. Music pioneer Suzanne de Passe won the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

"Rock is an ever-evolving amalgam of sounds that impacts culture and moves generations,” said John Sykes, chairman of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “Each of this diverse group of rookies broke down musical barriers and influenced countless artists who followed in their footsteps.”

The induction ceremony will be held on October 19 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

Music artists nominated this year but not making the chart include Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, the late Sinéad O’Connor, soul-pop singer Sade, Oasis, hip-hop duo Eric B. & Rakim and alternative rockers Jane's Addiction.

Ozzy Osbourne, who scandalized many parents in the 1980s with his diabolical imagery and dark music, enters as a solo artist, having already been inducted into the Hall with metal masters Black Sabbath.

Cher is the only artist to have a No. 1 song in each of the last six decades.

Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they are eligible for entry.

Nominees were judged by more than 1,000 artists, historians and music industry professionals.

Last year, Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Chaka Khan, “Soul Train”, Don Cornelius, Kate Bush and the late George Michael were among the artists who entered the hall. p>
