Disney composer Richard Sherman has died VIDEO

The 95-year-old legend of the company wrote the music for "Mary Poppins" and "The Jungle Book"

American composer and lyricist for Disney films Richard Sherman has died at the age of 95, the company announced.

Disney CEO Bob Iger called Sherman “the epitome of what it means to be a Disney legend”. He noted that Richard Sherman and his brother Robert created a “beloved classic” that captured the hearts of many audiences.

„We will always be grateful for the mark he left on this world, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family,”, Iger added.

The Sherman Brothers are best known for their work on the music for the movie "Mary Poppins" from 1964, for which they received two Oscars. The Shermans' credits also include music for the animated films Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, 1966, and The Jungle Book, 1967.

In total, Richard and Robert Sherman wrote about 200 songs for more than 50 films and television projects. Richard Sherman is a three-time Grammy Award winner. 24 music albums recorded with his participation have gone gold and platinum.
