On May 27, 1994, the "Club Leuven" was established in the city of Leuven, Belgium. - a group of intensive care physicians who introduce the specialty "Emergency Medicine" in Europe. Bulgaria is one of the first five countries in Europe to introduce the specialization in emergency medicine as the main specialty for doctors in the same year.
Since 2015, a specialization for medical specialists "Emergency Medical Assistance" has been introduced. and there are now dozens of emergency medicine specialists among them as well. On this day, the European Association of Emergency Medicine appeals to make May 27 a day of reflection and action towards emergency care and its importance for the system.
