The president of the Romanian Universitatia (Craiova) Mihai Rotaru finally personally explained how the "divorce" with Ivaylo Petev, after the former national coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina surprisingly parted ways with the club on Wednesday, BTA reported.
"The Bulgarian wanted to leave three times, Rotaru sensationally stated in the Fotbal Club show on DiGiSport TV.
Ivailo Petev leads the University of Craiova in 20 games and missed in just a few days the last chance to fight for the title and the presence in the semi-finals of the Romanian Cup. Mihai Rotaru was dissatisfied and the two sides came to a separation.
Team boss Banier went live on the Football Club show and tried to explain what happened. He claims that Petev wanted to leave three times before his contract was terminated.
"We haven't made anything public, we've just reached an agreement. I was interested in him staying until the end of the championship. Later in the evening he said he would stay until the game with Farul. But then he changed his mind and announced that he wanted to end it immediately due to family reasons," said Mihai Rotaru.
The president of the club from Craiova announced that he hopes the name of the team's next coach will be clear within a week, but not later. During this time, the University will be led by a temporary mentor. It is ruled out to resort to the return of Laurentiu Regekampf, despite the unsettled relations between the two countries. It turns out that in this case, Regekampf has to return money, not receive. And the head of the University is also preparing for a legal battle if no agreement is reached.
The university is in 3rd place in the ranking with 31 points, as well as CFR Cluj. The two teams are 10 behind the leaders Football Club Steaua Bucharest (FCSB).
