Grigor Dimitrov qualified for the fourth round of the clay tennis tournament in Rome with a prize fund of 9.09 million euros. Bulgaria's first racket beat qualifier Terence Atman (France) 7:6 (3), 6:3, BTA reports.
Haskovlia took the lead with a break and 2:1 in the first set, but allowed an equalization to 3:3. It reached a tiebreak in which Dimitrov led 5:2 and ended the part at 7:3.
At the very beginning of the match, played in windy weather, the best Bulgarian tennis player fell and then felt pain in his ankle, but this did not prevent him from achieving ultimate success in the match.
The Bulgarian, who will celebrate his 33rd birthday in four days, won the Frenchman's serve for 4:2 in the second set. He then managed to end the match on his own free kick from his third opportunity in an hour and 43 minutes on the court.
In the fourth round in the Italian capital, #8 ranked Grigor Dimitrov will face the winner of the all-American match between Sebastian Korda and Taylor Fritz.
"A very difficult match, but today was a battle. Very difficult conditions. Unfortunately, I stepped on the wrong foot and it took me a few games to calm the game down. I had to be solid and not make mistakes. With each passing match it becomes more and more difficult, I have to raise the level", said Dimitrov on the court after the victory against Atmane.
