In the most interesting men's volleyball match yet at the Olympics, world champion Poland's team beat Brazil 3:2 (22:25, 25:19, 19:25, 25:23, 15:12), BTA reported.
The Brazilians twice led in the result, but the Poles did not give up, equalized and were better in the tiebreak, when after 12:12 they scored three points in a row. The final points of Poland's success came after aces from Wilfredo Leon. The match lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes.
It was Vilfredo Leon who scored the most for Poland in the whole match with 26 points. Jakub Kohanovski added 15 for the winners. Adriano Fernandes and Ricardo Souza each scored 18 for Brazil.
With this success, Polmsha guarantees participation in the next phase, as it cannot be displaced from the second place of Group "B". Team Brazil remains third, but hopes to
be the best third, and for that he will fight with the German team, which is third in Group "C" for now. However, Brazil have a good chance of advancing if they prevail over outsiders Egypt 3-0 in their last match.
In the other match of the day, the Japanese team prevailed over Argentina 3:1 (25:16, 25:22, 18:25, 25:23). The first two sets were definitely for the Japanese, while the Argentinians recovered very late and took the third game, coming close to a turnaround in the fourth set as well.
In the fourth game, Japan led 24:21, but the Argentines scored two straight points before the Asians closed the match with a Kento Miura attack, the ball deflected off the block of Argentina's Yan Martinez and went out.
Yuji Nishida scored 21 points for Japan, Ran Takanashi helped with 14. Facundo Conte was the top scorer for Argentina with 19.
Japan finished second in Group C, ahead of Germany. The USA team is the leader here. In the final round, Japan and Germany will face each other in a head-to-head clash for second place.
