The women's national handball team of Bulgaria beat Luxembourg and achieved their first victory on the international stage after a break of 9 years. The last one for our representative team was in 2015 against the Faroe Islands in Gabrovo in the qualifiers for EURO 2016, BTA reports.
In their second match of the first phase of the qualification for the 2025 World Cup in Chieti, Italy, the Bulgarian team prevailed with a convincing 33:21 over the team from the Grand Duchy and equalized on points with the Italian team, which yesterday defeated the Bulgarians with 29:21. Today, the hosts will meet Luxembourg and, if successful, they will guarantee themselves the first place in the group, which gives them the right to participate in the second phase of the qualifications.

By the break, the difference increased to 6 goals – 16:10. It could have been a lot bigger if it weren't for the hasty actions and numerous inaccuracies in attack. Poli Gencheva was unstoppable for the opponent and scored 7 goals already in the first part.
During the second 30 minutes, the Bulgarian team continued to dominate and systematically increased its lead, which by the end reached 12 goals in 33:21. The comfortable advance of the team made it possible to include all the girls from the bench in the game. Melina Spasova played a productive half in which she scored 6 goals and finished with a total of 9 on her account. Poli Gencheva was the top scorer for the Bulgarian team in the match with a total of 12 goals. The competitor of the Norwegian Pors was also named player of the match in the Bulgarian team.
