Alexander Vezenkov's Olympiacos beat Real Madrid 79:69 (17:21, 19: 13, 20:25, 23:10) at home in a Euroleague basketball match, BTA reported.
The Bulgarian international was the best on the field and the most valuable player in the match with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Far behind Vezenkov was the Croatian Mario Hezonja, who finished the game with 15 points.
The Bulgarian led Olympiakos as a leader at the very beginning of the match, when he scored most of the points for the Greek team. The big trump card for the Greeks' success was the fact that they stopped Real's Argentina international Facundo Campazzo, who finished below par with 10 assists.
Aleksander Vezenkov rested in the fourth quarter, but returned to the field in the decisive last 3 minutes, in which he accounted for a successful shot from the three-point zone and a successful layup. In the last part, Olympiakos completely outplayed the Spanish giants, as it ended 23:10 for the hosts. American Shaquille McKissick was also among the leaders of the team from Piraeus with 15 points.
It was Olympiakos' third win in the six-match tournament, with the Greeks moving up to ninth in the standings, with Real Madrid in tenth position.
"It is not important what I do, but how the whole team performs. And tonight we missed a lot of shots, I missed too, but we didn't give up and kept fighting. We are a good team", commented Vezenkov after the success.
