Former world heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman has died at the age of 76. This was announced by his relatives, publishing a farewell post on his Instagram page.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr., who passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. We appreciate the love and prayers you have sent and ask for privacy as we honor this man's extraordinary life,“ the statement said.

Foreman was born in 1949 in the United States and competed in the heavyweight division from 1969 to 1977 and from 1987 to 1997. The American became the champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), the World Boxing Association (WBA), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO). He was twice awarded the "Boxer of the Year" award by The Ring magazine (1973, 1976). In 1994, at the age of 45, he became the oldest world champion in boxing history, winning the WBA and IBF titles; in 2010, this record was broken by his compatriot Bernard Hopkins, but Foreman remained the oldest heavyweight champion.

He won a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics. In total, Foreman fought 81 professional fights, winning 76 (68 by knockout) and losing five.
