On June 7, 2025, the sports complex in “Zone B-5“ – Sportna Sofia 2000 EAD became a scene of joy, enthusiasm and contested matches during the first edition of the children's football tournament “Mayor's Cup“.
The event was organized by the Municipal Council - "Vazrazhdane" region with the support of the Bulgarian Football Union and PFC "Levski" and was held under the patronage of the mayor of the region, Mr. Stanislav Iliev.
The day began solemnly with the anthem of Republic of Bulgaria and the Champions League anthem, which inspired the young participants. In his welcome speech, Mayor Iliev stated that the tournament is dedicated to the children from the municipal schools in the area and expressed hope that this event will become an annual sports tradition, promoting fair play, teamwork and friendship.
Students from 3rd to 7th grade, divided into two age groups, participated in the tournament. Throughout the day, the complex was filled with children's cheers, strong sportsmanship and applause from the stands. The final matches and the demonstration match between the mayor's team and the football stars' team were among the most anticipated moments of the day.
The awards for the winners were presented by Mayor Stanislav Iliev, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Petar Mladenov, football legend Emil Kostadinov, the director of the Youth and Sports School of PFC “Levski“ Elin Topuzakov, the manager “Mass Football“ in BFU Andon Tsarev and the Marketing Director of PFC “ Levski“ Viktor Viktorov.
The Bulgarian Football Union provided cups, medals and balls for all participants, and PFC “ Levski“ delighted the children with special gifts.
The tournament fulfilled its main goal - to inspire adolescents to an active lifestyle and create lasting memories through the power of sport.
“Let this be just the beginning of a wonderful tradition for our region,“ said Mayor Iliev in conclusion.
In the age group 5th-7th grade, Group A included the teams of 32 SUICHE, 18 SU and 30 SU. In the results: 32 SUICHE lost to 18 SU with 1:7, and 18 SU won and 30 SU with 2:1. 30 SU closed the group stage with a victory over 32 SWICHE – 4:1. In Group B, 76 OU prevailed over 67 OU with 6:3 and over 136 OU with 4:0. 67 OU defeated 136 OU with 4:0.
In the semifinals, 18 SU prevailed over 67 OU with 5:3, and 30 SU defeated 76 OU with 1:0. In the match for fifth place, 32 SWICHE won against 136 OU with 4:3, and for third place – 76 OU prevailed over 67 OU with 4:1. The final match ended with a convincing victory of 18 SU over 30 SU – 5:1.
In the younger age group, in the 3rd-4th grade, Group A included the teams of 18 SU, 30 SU and 76 OU. In it, 30 SU defeated 18 SU with 3:1 and 76 OU with 5:2, while 18 SU defeated 76 OU with 3:0. In Group B, 32 SUICHE showed a strong game with victories over 136 OU (6:0) and 67 OU (7:0). 136 OU defeated 67 OU with 5:2.
The semifinals pitted 18 SU against 136 OU (6:0), as well as 32 SUICHE against 30 SU (3:1). In the match for fifth place, 76 OU defeated 67 OU with 2:0. For third place, 136 OU won by a score of 18 SU. The final clash between 32 SUICE and 30 SU ended with a decisive victory of 32 SUICE – 5:0.
The football day left a lasting impression on all participants and laid the foundation for a new, inspiring tradition in the “Vazrazhdane“ region.
