Victoria Tomova defeated the Pole Katarzyna Kawa 2:6, 6:4, 6:1 in the final round of the qualifiers and secured a place in the main draw of a grass tennis tournament in Berlin, which has a prize fund of 925,661 euros, BTA reports.
By qualifying in the main draw of the UTA 500 series tournament, Tomova guarantees herself 25 points for the world ranking and 9,829 euros. The points increase significantly as she progresses, with the second round building up to 85 points and 13,651 euros.
Tomova will start against another qualifier or Australian Daria Kasatkina, and the draw for her main draw is later today.
The top four seeds Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus), Coco Gauff (USA), Jessica Pegula (USA) and Jazmine Paolini (Italy) are resting in the first round.
After erasing a four-game deficit in the third set against Australian Priscilla Hohn yesterday, Tomova played another long match today. The Sofia player lost her first three service games and was down 2-6 in the opening set, but dominated the rest of the match. She won the second set 6:4, and in the third she recorded two breaks and did not allow the loss of a service game for the final 6:1 after an hour and 49 minutes.
