The most successful Bulgarian tennis player in history, Grigor Dimitrov, arrived at the Wimbledon courts yesterday, the organizers reported, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.
Dimitrov has had his first training sessions and will await the draw on Friday, where he will be among the seeded players. The Grand Slam tournament in London starts on Monday, June 30.
Grigor will be making his 15th appearance and 59th overall in the Slam.
Last year, an injury stopped our first racket in the round of 16 against Daniil Medvedev at a score of 3:5 in the first set, so now he has 200 points to defend for the world ranking, where he is in 21st place.
The Bulgarian's best ranking at Wimbledon is the semi-final in 2014. Then he lost in a contested match to Novak Djokovic after 4:6, 6:3, 6:7, 6:7. In the fourth set, Dimitrov wasted a total of four set points and failed to send the match to the fifth set.
Grisho's first match on the grass at the “All England Club“ in the men's event was in 2009, when he received a “wild card” as the champion of the juniors from the previous season. The player from Haskovo was unable to finish his match against Igor Kunitsyn – 6:3, 0:6, 0:3 and retired due to cramps.
