Georgi Gergov's company “Paldin Tourinvest“ JSC will not be able to establish full control over the Plovdiv Fair for the time being. This is clear from a decision of the Sofia City Court from a few days ago. The Sofia Administrative Court decided that the transfer of the shares from the Municipality of Varna was void and was carried out in serious violation of the Law on Privatization and Post-Privatization Control.
“This is a huge victory for the Bulgarians, for Bulgaria, for justice. The saga with the Plovdiv fair is difficult to trace and dates back to 2006, when the municipality of Plovdiv began to gradually transfer properties to “Paldin Turinvest” AD. In the beginning, this was built with good ideas - to save the Old Town, to develop the fair, etc. Steps have then been taken over the years which are to the great detriment of the state. We are talking about the 1:20 transfer of properties that the state contributes to this company, and Georgi Gergov is getting rich in an absolutely shady way. Appraisals of state-owned properties are being lowered, and those of Gergov are being raised. Thus, he took over the houses in the Old Town, and gradually the Plovdiv Fair, to reach 49%. Then, through a trick, he managed to compensate about 1.5% of the shares in the fair, which were held by third parties from compensation. He buys their shares and thus becomes the majority owner," he announced to Lili Marinkova in the "FACTS" studio. and the show “Conversation“ Manol Peykov, MP from PP-DB.
„During all this time, Gergov managed the fair as the owner. The valuation of the fair before 2010 was 800 million BGN, and today it is much more than a billion. If at some point it happened that he was done with the fair and decided to build with blocks of the “Lyulin“ 2 the earth, this billion will be multiplied several times. At one point, during Borisov's last cabinet, the municipality of “Plovdiv“ donates 29% of the shares in the fair to the municipality of Varna. After that, the municipality of Varna decided to contribute this 29% to Gergov's company, and thus the fair would actually be closed. This decision of the municipality of Varna to contribute 29% of shares from the fair to Gergov's company fell in court, and this is a great victory. The court ruled that these shares do not belong to the municipality of Varna and that it has no right to appropriate them. This can be appealed, and the mayor of Varna said that he will not appeal. That's the saga in a nutshell. We want justice and the question is to find enough institutions to stand on the side of the law, of the right," added the guest.
