From the 1920s to today, we have witnessed a special development of Bulgaria. This is a century in which our country goes through three forms of government. This was announced to Lili Marinkova in the “FAKTI“ studio and the “Conversation“ by the historian Prof. Iskra Baeva and the philosopher Prof. Dimitar Denkov, authors of the study “A Bulgarian Century“.

“During this one century, if we consider that one generation is equal to about 30 years, it was given to three Bulgarian states in exactly 33 years - the Kingdom of Bulgaria, the People's Republic and today the Republic of Bulgaria. Those born in the 1920s - most of them died in the Republic of Bulgaria, but lived in three Bulgarian states with very different forms not only of government, but also of the organizations of the state itself. For this reason, we chose to summarize events in Bulgarian history from 1923 to 2024, in order to show how all this is developing. Not only what ideas people were driven by, but also what the economic structure is in these three separate Bulgarian states, which are very different. It is also characteristic that Bulgaria changes its main political ally every 33 years,“ shared Prof. Denkov.

„Another characteristic is that each subsequent Bulgarian state denies the previous one. Socialism denies the Third Bulgarian Kingdom. At the beginning of the transition in the 90s, what was in the era of socialism was completely denied. These events are not legitimate from a historical point of view, because we are still talking about the same country, which has its own development. There is no way to cut off one part and say that we are different from what was, because people are the same“, shared Prof. Iskra Baeva.
