Multiple people were killed and injured in a shooting at a field office of the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) service in Dallas on Wednesday morning, reports "Reuters".
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. local time in the northwest part of the city, with police responding immediately to reports of shots fired, local media reported. The shooter was found dead on the roof of a nearby building, possibly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ABC's WFAA reported, citing sources.
"Preliminary information indicates that the attack was possibly carried out by a sniper," Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told CNN.
US Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem confirmed in a post on X that there were "multiple injuries and deaths", adding that the shooter was dead.
US Vice President J.D. Vance condemned the attack, calling it "a vicious attack on ICE and law enforcement", and expressed condolences to the victims and their families.
Some of the injured are in critical condition, local media reported. A motive for the attack is not yet known, and authorities have not released the identities of the shooter or the victims.
A spokesperson for ICE and Dallas police did not respond to requests for further comment. The investigation is ongoing.
