Reciprocal: Hungary blocks 12 Ukrainian media outlets - 1

Budapest has blocked access to 12 Ukrainian media outlets after Kiev banned a number of foreign, including Hungarian, websites. This was announced by the head of the cabinet of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Gergely Gias, on his Facebook page, quoted by FOCUS.

He stated that the Ukrainian authorities had banned foreign websites, including Hungarian ones, because of publications that critically reflect sanctions against Russia, military aid to Ukraine, the activities of the "George Soros" foundation and problems within the European Union. According to the politician, such a step by Kiev is unfounded and every sovereign state has the right to give a proportionate response.

"According to the principle of reciprocity, Hungary is introducing retaliatory measures against Ukrainian news portals today, so there will be none in Hungary. I don't think many people would read "Ukrainian Truth" or would want to. However, a sovereign state must give a proportionate response to an absolutely unfounded attack," he wrote.

Guyash stressed that restricting freedom of speech is not in line with European values. He also warned: ''If Kiev seeks to join the EU, then such steps only strengthen the division in the Union''.

In his publication, the Hungarian politician also published a list of Ukrainian publications that will now be available on the territory of Hungary. Among them are: TSN, Obozrevatel, Anon Zakarpattya, Ungvar, Zakarpattya Online,Ukrainian Pravda, Suspilne, GB, Livy Bereg, Insider,UA Online and, European Pravda

Let us remind you that the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine temporarily blocked a number of foreign websites due to systematic pro-Russian propaganda. In particular, on September 8, 2025, five orders were published on the department's website for Internet providers, which restricted access to 14 Hungarian publications.

The Hungarian-language sites were blocked: News Front, Bal-Rad, Hirlistazo, Demokrata, Vdtablog, Origo, Szilaj Csikó and Pravda Magyarország; Romanian and Moldovan — Pravda Romania, Flux24, Sputnik Moldova-România, TopWar, Rezistenta.info and the website of the Party of Communists of Moldova, as well as the Greek resource 902.gr.

According to the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, these sites spread fake news about the war, fictitious “successes“ of Russian troops, “betrayals“ of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and “terrorist activities“ of Ukrainians, while simultaneously discrediting the West, criticizing the EU and NATO and promoting conspiracy theories, in particular about funds and George Soros. Some of the sites fuel public polarization regarding LGBT, migration and religion, adapting messages for audiences in different countries.
