Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised Donald Trump's "efforts and leadership" to end the war in Gaza, Reuters reports.
He made his remarks after the US leader secured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's support for a US peace proposal.
Following talks between Trump and Netanyahu in Washington, the White House released a 20-point plan that calls for an immediate ceasefire, an exchange of hostages held by "Hamas" for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the disarmament of "Hamas" and a transitional government led by an international body.
It is unclear whether "Hamas" will accept the deal.
"I welcome the efforts and leadership of US President Donald Trump to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and achieve a ceasefire," said Erdogan, who met Trump at the White House last week for the first time in six years.
Turkey will continue to contribute to the process "with a view to establishing a just and lasting peace acceptable to all parties," he added.
Turkey has been one of the most vocal critics of Israel's two-year offensive on Gaza, which it calls "genocide." It has suspended all trade with Israel, called for international action against Netanyahu and his government, and has repeatedly pushed for a two-state solution.
A Turkish Foreign Ministry source said yesterday that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had discussed Trump's proposal with colleagues from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Jordan in a telephone conversation.
