Israel should have stopped its military operations in Palestinian territory, according to the plan of US President Donald Trump, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar said today – country mediating in the talks to end the war in the Gaza Strip, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
The 20-point plan presented by Trump is the focus of this week's talks between the Israeli government and the Hamas movement, which are being organized in Egypt.
"We expect the results of the talks on the ceasefire in the coming days", said Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari.
"The issue should first be addressed to Israel. Israel should have stopped its military operations if the statements of the Israeli Prime Minister that he supports Trump's plan were true," the Qatari representative added.
He explained that the negotiations in Egypt are a process in which all parties are firmly committed to reaching an agreement, but there are still many details that need to be ironed out. That is why, he said, continuous communication is required.
The spokesman declined to comment on the future of the Hamas political bureau in the Qatari capital, Doha. "It is too early to talk about this," Majed al-Ansari said after Israel attacked Hamas leaders in Doha last month.
Qatar has hosted the Hamas political bureau since 2012 with the approval of the United States. At the time, Washington sought to maintain a channel of communication with the Islamist movement, which is designated a "terrorist organization" by most Western countries.
"This bureau is needed as long as this channel of communication is needed," the Qatari representative said.
