Sweden will invest 3.5 billion Swedish kronor (316.95 million euros) in more anti-drone systems, the defense minister said, quoted by "Reuters", reports News.bg.
A wave of drone incursions has shaken European aviation, raising concerns about hybrid attacks potentially targeting Ukraine's allies in Europe.
"The latest violations and drone sightings are a reminder that aerial threats are an increasingly important part of modern warfare," Defense Minister Pál Jónsson said on X. "We must protect ourselves from this.
The northern NATO member will acquire drone-shooting systems, deploy interceptor drones to air bases and install jamming sensors, among other measures, the minister added.
Sweden will spend an additional 1.5 billion kronor to improve the capabilities of its JAS 39 Gripen fighter jet, a government statement said.
The investment covers spare parts, mission equipment and basic materials to strengthen the air force's ability to operate from air bases and temporary road bases, the statement added.
"This enhances the readiness and resilience of Gripen in peace, crisis and wartime conditions," Johnson noted.
