The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law that provides additional payments to Ukrainian servicemen released from captivity suffering from illnesses requiring long-term hospital treatment, Ukrinform reported, referring to the website of the country's Verkhovna Rada (parliament), BTA reports.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko thanked President Zelensky and the deputies for adopting the law, emphasizing its importance for the military.
„The President signed the relevant law - thank you for your support. I am grateful to the members of parliament for adopting this important decision for our military“, Sviridenko said.
She specified that the support will be provided during the first three months of rehabilitation. Until now, such payments were only available to those who had received wounds, concussions or injuries. However, many of the released Ukrainian servicemen suffer from serious illnesses that require long-term treatment. "Now the state guarantees assistance to every man and woman who was in captivity. This is an important step towards comprehensive support for our defenders,” the Prime Minister added.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law on October 9, with 244 deputies voting “for,” Ukrinform notes.
According to the law, Ukrainian servicemen who, immediately after their release from captivity, undergo inpatient treatment in health facilities for more than 30 calendar days due to an illness or injury (wound, concussion or mutilation) requiring long-term hospital care will receive an additional monthly remuneration in the amount of 50,000 Ukrainian hryvnias (about 2,022 leva).
Payments will be made throughout the entire period of continuous hospital treatment after their release from captivity.
