US President Donald Trump compared his 2019 impeachment attempt to the "Watergate" scandal. He wrote this on the TRUTH Social social network.
„The Ukrainian impeachment (against me!) was a far more illegal fraud than „Watergate“. I sincerely hope that the relevant authorities, including Congress, will investigate this matter! Adam Schiff was so dishonest and corrupt. So many laws and procedures were violated and simply ignored!“, said the American leader.
Trump became the only president in US history to be impeached twice in the House of Representatives, but was acquitted by the Senate both times. Democrats organized the first trial in 2019. The head of state was suspected of withholding military aid to Ukraine and demanded an investigation into his political opponent Joe Biden and his son Hunter in return. Trump claimed that he only wanted the Ukrainian government to fight corruption. The Senate acquitted him on both charges - abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
The House of Representatives impeached Trump for the second time in January 2021. Then Trump was accused of inciting an uprising after the riots at the Capitol. The Senate, which considered the impeachment after Trump ceased to be president, again acquitted him.
