Greece introduces 13-hour work shifts and causes public discontent - 1

The Greek parliament has approved reforms that allow work shifts up to 13 hours, BNR reported, quoted by News.bg.

The bill triggered a 24-hour strike in the country and two days of lively debates in parliament. The reforms were proposed by the government, but met with strong resistance from unions and opposition parties.

The left-wing SYRIZA party did not participate in the vote, and the parliamentary group's spokesman Christos Giannoulis called the bill a “legislative monster“.

The government specified that the 13-hour work day is not mandatory, affects only the private sector and can be applied for a maximum of 37 days a year. However, the measure caused widespread dissatisfaction among citizens.
