Russia is convinced that Western sanctions are not temporary or targeted measures, but are a mechanism for systemic pressure on Moscow. This was stated by the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova during the forum “Made in Russia“ in an interview with TASS, Focus reports.
The diplomat emphasized that an aggressive campaign has been launched against Russia by Western countries, their alliances and related partners.
“The goal is openly stated: financial and technological isolation, undermining long-term socio-economic prospects and causing maximum damage to citizens in order to destabilize the domestic political situation. "We proceed from the understanding that sanctions are not temporary measures, but a mechanism for strategic pressure on our country," Zakharova pointed out.
In her words, through the so-called secondary sanctions, the “collective West“ seeks to punish sovereign states for maintaining relations with Russia and protecting their national interests.
Zakharova added that sanctions have become part of the new stage of development that the world economy is entering.
“The unwillingness of Western countries to admit that their production and financial models are losing competitiveness compared to the majority of global economies leads to chaos and imbalance in all spheres,“ she added.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, the numerous sanctions imposed on various countries, as well as the refusal of key reserve currencies, the freezing of sovereign assets, trade wars and neocolonial approaches to financing development, “de facto eliminate globalization“.
