Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that during her meeting with US President Donald Trump in Tokyo, the two reaffirmed their shared commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Takaichi indicated that she and Trump also discussed the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, emphasizing that this is a key issue for security in the region. She declined to disclose details about their talks on China, as the US leader is due to meet with the Chinese president in the coming days.
Earlier during the bilateral talks, Trump praised Takaichi – Japan's first female prime minister, for her decision to increase the national defense budget and for her “bold leadership“.
The Japanese prime minister also expressed her intention to nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, emphasizing that thanks to his policies, “more peace has come to the world in a short period“.
