Berlin police arrest suspect for planning terrorist attack

German police have arrested a man in Berlin suspected of planning a terrorist attack. This was announced by a representative of the General Prosecutor's Office, writes Spiegel, quoted by FOKUS.

The arrest was made on Saturday, November 1. A representative of the Berlin prosecutor's office said that the man is accused of preparing a serious crime that threatens the state.

The arrested man was supposed to appear in court this afternoon. Materials suitable for making explosive devices were seized from him.

A spokesman for the General Prosecutor's Office said that the arrest is related to planning a terrorist attack on a jihadist basis.

We recall that attacks on religious grounds have been increasing recently. On 2 October, an attack took place near a synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish religious calendar. A man drove a car into a group of worshippers outside a synagogue and then began stabbing his way into the building.

The attacker died at the scene during his arrest. He is reported to be a Syrian national who arrived in the UK more than 20 years ago.

Six people have been arrested in connection with the attack near a synagogue in Manchester.

British police later learned that the attacker at a synagogue in Manchester, which was classified as a terrorist attack, had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS).
