The EU is preparing a new tightening of the visa regime for Russian citizens, planning to stop issuing multiple-entry Schengen visas in most cases. This was reported to POLITICO by three representatives of European institutions, Focus reports.
According to the prepared changes, Russian citizens will be able to rely mainly on single-entry visas, with exceptions being made only in humanitarian circumstances or when the applicant also holds citizenship of an EU country, Nexta reports.
However, visa policy remains within the competence of individual member states. This means that while the European Commission is able to significantly complicate the procedure, it does not have the authority to introduce a complete and uniform ban on visits by Russian citizens.
